CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a covered-coal designed for pack carburizing which features 3 to 6 mm granulates. Unlike more expensive sintered coals, that also contain the activator inside the cylinder, this granular coal only requires a small amount of additional product after use. Approximate depths are reported on the attached table.
OPERATING RANGE:
Mechanical components pack carburizing, high-carbon steel components neutral quenching such as shearing blades, upper punches, etc.
INSTRUCTION FOR USE:
To be used in conjunction with heat-resistant steel BOXES, that we can provide upon request. Prepare the boxes by applying at least a 1 cm thick granular layer at the bottom, arrange the workpieces in layers and coat them with granulate; additional layers can be prepared in the same way.
The upper layer must be at least 2-3 cm thick.
The box must be tightly sealed with SLC paste to prevent the cementing substance from leaking out; introduce the box into the muffle furnace as soon as the sealing paste dries off.
Areas which are not to be cemented can be protected by applying a coat of stop-off LUISO W33 protective paint anti carburizing, specifically designed for that purpose. Whenever possible, it is recommended to use small-sized boxes, bearing in mind that it takes about 5 minutes for every centimetre in width to heat the whole mass.
NOTES:
Being a covered-coal, the Kratos UKII loses the activator during the process. After use, it is necessary to discard at least 15% of granulate and to add an extra coat of product, thus compensating the loss of product during combustion.
SAFETY STANDARDS:
While working is in progress, coal generates a cementing gas which contains carbon monoxide likely to flow out of the boxes. Therefore, it is recommended to work in appropriately ventilated facilities. Put on GLOVES and PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT before handling the product. Kratos UKII coal does not contain barium activators.
